Antigua and Barbuda will be represented at the 20th OECS/PPS
Policy Board at a Health Ministers meeting at the Paradise Cove
Hotel in Anguilla on September 8th.
Minister of Health John Maginley and Director of
Pharmaceutical Services Casford King will be attending the
meeting, along with other Ministers responsible for Health.
Several other health officials will be attending the meeting
also including the Director of Social and Sustainable Division
of the OECS Secretariat, representatives from the OECS/Pharmaceutical
Procurement Services (OECS/PPS), Eastern Caribbean Central Bank
(ECCB), the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) and the
CARICOM Secretariat.
The delegates will review several papers at the OECS/PPS
Policy Board meeting. These include the annual report for 2006,
programme budget for the year 2006, 2007, a 4-year strategic
plan for 2006 to 2010, and a position paper to re-define the
responsibilities between OECS/PPS and the OECS countries.
Consideration will also be given to the ECCB report on the
conduct of OECS/PPS accounts.
During the second part of the meeting, delegates will discuss
health care issues relating to HIV/AIDS and will focus on three
specific areas, namely:
- Status update on the OECS HIV/AIDS Global Fund Project
- Framework proposal for developing an OECS HIV/AIDS
Programme
- Report on the visit between the Brazilian delegation and
OECS and CARICOM Secretariats regarding Technical Cooperation on
HIV/AIDS.
